Sike!

My last post was about how I wrote about reforming my thinking around approaching a current project. Unfortunately, the realization is the same, but I really ended up focusing on some fun things for myself.

Hmmburger

Calibrating

Yes, Hmmburger is back and in some effect! It begins with catching up on the deadline of wrapping up the first issue of the zine this year. It’s titled Calibrating because I am indeed figuring out what the hell I am doing with this website and my energy.

Website Refresh

The homepage has a new look and it’s pretty great! I mostly like how photos are displayed on the receipt without having to create images that matched the aesthetic. Turns out stacking contrast and grayscale filter properties was all I needed to do get that that thermal printer look. For the edges, I found a JSFiddle on Stack Overflow. Lastly, Stack Overflow led me to figure out how to create a checkerboard background for ornamental elements.

Outside of the homepage, there is cleanup across the board but mostly a focus on the Napkins section. I briefly touched on why I am starting to stick with creating them at 1024×768 resolution, but that is not too serious. Napkins have become a place to practice slapping together and to practice my way with words, and Hmmburger is a place for me to play and not be so serious. The state of everything makes a place like Hmmburger fun for me.

This is the last month of Q2 of Hmmburger, so expect the third Hmmburger zine in a month and change. I have a new template for the zine that makes it easy to put together an issue that looks nice.

Writing is hard!

Writing is stupid hard! It is fun when you can shape your words to say what you want in a way that you want, but to get there is like puling teeth. Writing feels a bit like painting. There is this rough idea in your head but you are fighting to bring it out with tiny but large refinements.

Yeah, yeah, art is hard.

100 Day Project

Yeah, probably not going to finish it. It was a fun thought to think I was back on the wagon. Hmmburger and some housework has been taking up my time outside of work. My workspace is a bit in flux so I think it’s best to focus on the easy wins.

I have a few stamps I’ve carved that I plan on printing, but I think the project is not going to finish.

Hmm, what else?

I am finding that this reformed energy in making silly things is a response to years of being in an absolutely soul sucking tech job and the current state of the web. One day I probably will expand on this, but I am going to keep things superficial for now and keep on trucking.

Have a wonderful day.
